A Circle Session consists of a circle meditation, a light vegetarian meal and a screening of a motion picture. The circle meditation component is simply a twenty to thirty minute silent meditation in a circle. Nothing is chanted or spoken. This is one of the most neutral and universal forms of ritual for human souls of different faiths. Participants have the option to sit on the floor or on chairs depending on their level of physical comfort. (Please bring pillows or special chairs if needed.)
FAITH
Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
DOUBT
To be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely.
The understanding and experience of Faith and Doubt are personal ones. Only the individual can determine what his or her relationship is to God, Universe, Creator, Divine Feminine or the myriad of other terms used to identify the supernatural. This has become even more challenging as we now live in a far from perfect world.
“Faith & Doubt” is the theme of The Peoples Monastery’s First Circle Session.
Our motion picture will include an hour long selection of excerpts from the critically acclaimed documentary, “Faith & Doubt at Ground Zero.” http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/faith/.
“In ‘Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero,’ FRONTLINE producer Helen Whitney sets out to discover how the religious beliefs — and unbelief — of Americans have been challenged since the events of Sept. 11. Through interviews with priests, rabbis, and Islamic scholars, victims’ families and World Trade Center survivors, writers and thinkers, atheists and agnostics, this…documentary explores whether, and in what ways, Americans’ spiritual lives may have changed on that day.”
I pray that this announcement finds you all in great spirit, body and mind.
Much Light!
